Controller's Comments

My worries about Byron's Walk never materialised, the motorcyclists were very co-operative and all control sites remained in place, although the unexpected appearance of Robin Hood and his not so Merry Men must have been somewhat intimidating for some runners in the western area.

Thanks must go to first time planner Richard for his hard work and challenging courses and David for his very efficient organisation backed by the team of NOC helpers. My personal thanks also to Margaret (unofficial assistant controller) and Hilary and Ray for help with control checking on the day.

One of the main concerns with electronic punching and computer technology is when gear stops working. Today's problems produced some anxious moments for Angela and her team who are to be thanked for coping amazingly well. Thanks also to you the competitors for your patience and understanding.

I hope you enjoyed your day in the forest, especially the first-timers. We shall certainly remember it, everything packed away, all controls in, ready to leave, then smoke and flames. We left the area with the forest ablaze and fire brigade in attendance, 'a warm send off' you might say.

Happy Orienteering
The Thin Controller
