Planner's Comments

An orienteering event on a reclaimed slag heap in North Nottinghamshire ?? … Might not be appealing on first thought but by your comments everyone enjoyed the area, even if the summer undergrowth had impeded progress a little.

It was pleasing to see so many youngsters take part and come back for another longer course. Thanks must go to Alan for experienced advice which fine tuned the courses making them better and fairer.

As for the area, it grew on me each time I visited …. And as the area matures it will improve even more.

If you were too busy searching for controls you may have missed the wildlife: Putting out controls we saw: rabbits, coots, mallards, pied wagtails, yellowhammers, bullfinches, water voles, skylarks, wood pigeons and heard the cuckoo …. There is more to planning than just putting out controls!

Thanks for coming. The storm came down just as we got into the car to leave …….
