Organiser's Comments
Firstly thank you to everyone who was involved in the event, pupils, teachers, and all helpers. I am sure you will agree that it was a success and enabled over 100 pupils to participate.
Especial thanks to
Pauline Olivant for the Mansfield 'O'zone initiative encouraging local
schools, mapping, map printing and coaching,
Alan Beardsley and pupils from Sutton Centre Community College for help at
the start and finish,
Ray Barnes for a highly efficient finish,
Richard Robinson and Stephen Wright for start and finish,
Robert Palmer for coaching,
Jo Lindsay and the Forestry Commission for allowing use of the area and use

The event was run in the same way as orienteering events throughout the UK, and other orienteering countries. Pupils will therefore benefit from having been through the process of start, finish etc and will be able to transfer this to a typical orienteering event elsewhere.

The British Schools Orienteering Championships are being held near Watford on 21st November. If you are interested in attending, sharing transport or finding out more, contact Pauline Olivant or myself (01433-650309). Last year a girl from Abbey Gates Primary School won on the White course against much opposition.
Medals have been awarded to the winning girls and boys, including the best individual performance. Where a pair includes a mixed year group (eg Y5 & Y6), the pupils fall into the results for the higher year.
Most importantly the success of the event rests on the participation of all pupils. I therefore congratulate the winners and all pupils who took part.
