Specific Information for event day:
No train service to Shirebrook is currently shown as being available.
Alternatively, by bus 12 at 0915 from Mansfield (0950 arrival at Shirebrook Market Place).
Bus travel on Sundays from Worksop is difficult and arrival may be too late at Shirebrook.
Bus travel from Chesterfield Stevenson Place currently shown as bus No. 1 or 1A (they alternate) leaving at 0905 and arrival at Shirebrook at 0955. Services run every half hour.

Travel by Car / Motorcycle / Minibus:
FROM NORTH: Follow A60 towards Market Warsop. Turn right on to B6031 at Church Warsop (signed). Follow B6031 to junction with B6407 and proceed as below. FROM SOUTH: Follow A60 northwards towards Market Warsop. Approx. 1km north of Mansfield Woodhouse turn left on to B 6047 (signed). After passing double bends at Sookholme there is a concealed entrance on left after 200m. Take care! At junction with B6031 turn left (give way to traffic from right!) and follow B6407 to Shirebrook. Pass the railway station. Take left fork signed Pleasley and then left again, just before Fire Station, on to Portland Drive. At the roundabout turn left. Parking is then on the left .

Parking is at New Brook Industrial estate . Spaces are limited so please share transport wherever possible. Overflow car parking will be in nearby retail / business parks if necessary.

The area is Parkland/Woods. You will need clothes and footwear suitable for the weather and terrain.

Reclaimed colliery site with open areas and nicely maturing woods, actually some lovely areas of runnable forest!

Punching System:
Timing is by SportIdent
Contactless punching is enabled for those with SIACs.
Everybody must punch conventionally at the Start and Finish

Start:
Approx 900m from Car Park along rough tracks and paths. Follow the tapes. The route passes the Finish so clothing may be left there if required.
The start will be arranged into three 1-minute boxes (-3,-2 and -1).
Please ensure that you have cleared and checked your SI/SIAC cards before you start.
Remember to 'punch' at the start box.

Aprox 200m back to Download. Follow the tapes.

Download:
Download is next to the Enquiry Point

Results:
Results will not be displayed at Download but will be available on the NOC website.
There might be Live O results on the day, if reception is good enough.

Safety:
Specifically for this event at Shirebrook Wood:
Safety bearing - west to the main path, then north to the exit then follow the paths to Assembly area.

A comprehensive Risk Assessment has been carried out by the organiser.

Participants take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety during the event. It is recommended that whistles are carried.

Once you have started a course it is a rule that you don't leave the event without reporting to a download official even if you retire.

The Competitor Safety Slip can be downloaded and brought to the Enquiry Point if you wish to leave medical or emergency contact details. You may place the slip in a sealed envelope labelled with your name and class. The slip will be only accessible to the organiser or first aiders and will be destroyed after the event.

Child and Vulnerable Adults Safety:
This event is organised in accordance with British Orienteering regulations for child safety. This includes ensuring that courses selected by competitors aged under 18 are suitable for their level of experience. Where there is doubt, please ensure your child is shadowed on a colour coded course. Adults who wish to be competitive must complete their own course first. NOC volunteers are available at enquiries to advise and to support newcomers in selecting an appropriate course. More information

NOC has a policy on the taking of photographs at events, based on national guidance. This provides a sensible balance between the benefits and risks associated with the taking and use of images. If you are unsure about acceptable practice, please speak to the event organiser.
