This picturesque woodland with its mixture of broadleaf and conifer trees, open meadows and ponds were formally two colliery sites.
Through a process of coal washing, engineering, landscaping, fertilising and planting Silverhill Wood has been transformed into a beautiful woodland. It also boasts the views from one of the highest points in Nottinghamshire, definitely worth a visit. The viewpoint is marked by an impressive miner's memorial statue.

The reverse of the map has the following suggested courses:
Easy / yellow standard - 5 controls - 1.5 km - about 20 minutes
Medium / orange standard - 10 controls - 3 km - about 40 minutes
Score or make up your own course - 20 controls
Map, courses and posts updated June 2024.
Important note: please avoid controls 11,12 and 16 between March and July because of ground-nesting birds.
